Anatomical wax models

The Museum’s recently restored wax models represent one of the richest existing collections of its kind, a legacy of great historical, scientific and artistic interest.

The craniological collection

One  of the  Museum’s  showcases  exhibits  a  sample  of the  craniological  collection,    extremely  wide-ranging and comprising over a thousand prepared skulls, mainly dating back to the second half of the 19th century.

The phrenological collection

Donated by the Medicine Academy Museum in 1913, the phrenological collection consists of  “phrenological heads” once kept by Gall, founder of the discipline, and his pupil Spurzheim, as well as plaster casts of the skulls and heads of famous individuals (artists, scientists, soldiers, politicians and criminals).
